Dubuque Daily Times, Sunday, Jan 28, 1872, Dubuque, IA, Page: 4

The Clinton Herald says, “Saturday afternoon, a young man working for the Anthony’s, by the name of James Shingleton, was buried up to his neck in earth, which slid down from the bank of a quarry where he was loading a wagon with dirt. His cries brought someone to his assistance, and he was soon extricated, with no apparent injury but a broken thigh. A physician was called who dressed the fracture, and did not discover any other sign of injury. Sunday morning he began to sink and complain of difficulty in breathing, which increased until evening, when he died at 11 o’clock.
