The late Samuel P. Reed of this city, who passed away early yesterday morning, was one of the survivors of the prisoners captured by the confederates and cast into the prison at Andersonville. He carried some of the after effects of the misery and sufferings in this prison with him through life.

He was in the engagement of July 22, 1863, in which General McPherson was killed. It was in this battle before the city of Atlanta that he was captured and then taken to the Andersonville prison, where he was confined for seven months. He was wounded in the same battle.

Some others of his comrades in the battle now residing in this city, escaped capture by the southerners, as they were in another command at the time, although engaged in the struggle before Atlanta.

The funeral of Mr. Reed is to be held Saturday afternoon and the following will act as pallbearers: W. G. Haring, George Drake, W. H. Easterly, A. R. Hart, Harry W. Lee and Dr. C. F. Kellogg.
