John Ryan, aged 78 years, died last evening at 8:30 o'clock at the Farmers' Home on First street, after ailing since last winter.

The deceased was born in Ireland in 1839 and came to America when 17 years of age. He was one of the pioneers of the west, working in that section of the country in the year 1856. Mr. Ryan came to Clinton in 1874, and had been a residence since. He was employed in various capacities here as street commissioner, and previous to his death was a faithful employee of the Chicago & North-western railway.

Surviving to mourn his loss are one daughter Mrs. Nellie Dussey of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. D. J. Sullivan of Chicago, and Mrs. J. McGrath of Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church, Mgr. McLaughlin officiating at the mass. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

The funeral of John Ryan was held this morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church. Mass was celebrated by Mgr. E. J. McLaughlin and burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery. The pallbearers were Charles McLaughlin, Don Corcoran, William Ryan, Mathew Redden and John Ryan.
