Lost Nation, Ia., June 23--The remains of John Olson, formerly of this place but of late years a resident of Overton, Neb., was brought to Lost Nation Monday, June 18th, accompanied by his widow and sons, Oscar and Herbert, and daughter, Esther, and was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Augusta Rutenbeck, from which place the funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Boomershine officiated, with interment at the Lost Nation cemetery. John Olsen was born in Vernland, Glolia Sweden May 16th 1854. He came to America with his sister, Augusta. He came direct to Lost Nation, but made a four months cruise in northern seas in 1880 and returned to America in 1883. On March 12, 1885 he was married in Rock Island to Anna Olsen. To this union was born six children, five sons, two of whom died in childhood and one daughter. He began working for the C.M. & St. P. railroad in 1863 and was soon promoted to the position of foreman, which position he held twenty-seven years as follows. Ten years at Elwood, two years at Olin, five years at Hale and ten years at Lost Nation. In the year of 1903 he moved his family to Overton, Neb. where he has had charge of a hotel ever since and spent his last days in semi-retirement. He had been in ill health for several years, but bore his sufferings bravely. All that medical skill and good care could do for him was of no avail, and on June 15th, 1917, he passed peacefully away at his home in Overton, aged 63 years and 29 days. He was a good father, faithful husband and brother, a genial friend, and was liked by all who knew him. He is the first of a family of four sons and four daughters to be taken away. Besides his sorrowing wife and mother he is survived by three sons, Frederick of Portland, Ore.; Oscar of Meeteson, Wyo., Herbert of Overton, Neb., and one daughter, Mrs. Esther McCaw, of Colors, Neb.; three brothers and four sisters, and a large circle of friends. The floral offerings were unusually beautiful and expressed in a measure the esteem in which he was held. He was placed in his last resting place in Lost Nation cemetery beside the two boys that had preceded him to the great beyond.
