Herman G. Coe, 91 years old father of Attorney V. G. Coe, passed away at the home of his son, 1116 North Second street. Mr. Coe had been a resident of this city since February, 1913 when he came to live with his son after death of wife at Clarence. Nine months of this time he spent in Florida with another son.
Mr. Coe has been a resident of Iowa since 1853. He was born in Yates county, New York, January 7, 1826, the son of Matthew and Ruth Coe, who were natives of Rockland, New York.
In 1832 the family moved to Sandusky Ohio. The young man was educated at Norwalk academy, and June 1, 1852 he was married to Katherine M. McClung. They were the parents of five children, Clara, Isabel, Upton G. Victor G. and Dr. Pliny W. The first three preceded their parents. The other two sons, Victor G. of Clinton and Dr. P. W. , St. Petersburg, Fla., are the only members left. Seven grandchildren also survive.
In March 1853 Mr. Coe brought his family to Muscatine Iowa and later that year they moved to Tipton, Cedar county, and settled on a farm between Tipton and Clarence, where they lived thirty years.
In 1869 they moved to Clarence, where Mr. Coe filled several positions of honor and trust for Cedar county, among them county supervisor. He was also president and director of the Clarence Savings bank.
While a resident of Tipton and for many years after that, Mr. Coe was a member of the Congregational church where he was a devoted and active member.
A short funeral service will be held at the residence of V. G. Coe Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, and the body will be taken to Clarence where services will be held in the afternoon at 2:30.
Burial will be made in Clarence.

The funeral of Herman G. Coe, father of Attorney V. G. Coe, was held at the home at 10 o'clock this morning. The Rev. G. B. Cady of the First Congregational church officiated, and accompanied the funeral party to Clarence, where funeral services will be held this afternoon.
The pallbearers were Will Childs, G. P. McMahon, W. W. Cook, D. D. Babbitt, J. M. Watters and Fred Hansen.

Clarence, Ia. April 7--The funeral of H. G. Coe was held here Wednesday at the Presbyterian church. Mr. Coe was a resident of Clarence for a number of years, and filled several positions of honor and trust during that time. Since the death of Mrs. Coe in February, 1913, he has resided in Clinton with his son, Mr. V. G. Coe. Mr. Coe always seemed to enjoy coming back to Clarence and meeting his old friends and he will be greatly missed here. Interment was in the family lot in the Clarence cemetery.
