Obituary for Dorinda A. Haines
Dorinda A. Haines, 71, of Camanche passed away peacefully at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf on Saturday, July 13, 2019 after a lengthy battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Visitation will be held at the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home in Camanche on Thursday, July, 18, 2019 from 4-7 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche on Friday, July, 19, 2019 at 11 am. The burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche immediately after the funeral service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Timmer, Zach Timmer, Ethan Timmer, Joe Carstensen, Tom Fullerton, and Craig Smith. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Shaw. A funeral luncheon will be held at St. Mark’s immediately following the burial.

Dorinda was born April 8, 1948 to Kenneth and Jane (Fahr) Shaw. She lived in Camanche most of her life and graduated from Camanche High School in 1966. She married Gary Haines on May 12, 1978. She graduated from Marycrest College in 1989 with a Degree in Elementary Education and later received a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology from Franciscan University. Dorinda was a third grade teacher at Longfellow and Bluff Elementary until her retirement in 2010. She greatly enjoyed teaching and doing special things with her students, including baking cakes to celebrate students’ birthdays. She also enjoyed tutoring students during the summer.

Dorinda was a very active member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She greatly enjoyed numerous crafts, especially knitting and making blankets for babies of friends and relatives. She also loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in numerous activities and sporting events. She was an exceptional cook and baker. She was also a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Cubs. Dorinda loved to travel and spend time with friends and family.

Dorinda is survived by her husband Gary, children Douglas (Sarah) Timmer of Mequon, WI, Daniel (Charlotte) Timmer of Robins, IA, and Ashley (Justin) Schlader of Urbandale, IA. Dorinda is also survived by six grandchildren, Jacob, Zach, Ethan, Bailey, Sophia and Liam as well as her brother, Richard Shaw of Muscatine, IA, brother-in-law Kurt (Kathy) Haines of Clinton and sister-in-law Connie Robertson of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jane (Fahr) and Ken Shaw, and son, Mathew Gary Haines.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Genesis Hospice and Golden Dreams for providing loving care during Dorinda’s extended illness. The family is also extremely grateful for the love and support of the many friends and neighbors who helped Dorinda and Gary throughout this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House or the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation.
