page 4Lost Nation, Ia., March 3--R. M. Willard was born on the Ted Myatt farm 57 years ago Feb. 7th and grew to manhood in this vicinity. Twenty-one years ago he was united in marriage to Arla Overfield. He went into the grocery business when a young man in a store where the Ales billiard hall is today and later where the L. Rutenbeck store is now. The building burned and he bought out Aug. Haak across the street, later selling to Hans Christensen. During this time and for 16 consecutive years he was postmaster. He was a most progressive and likable business man and had friends wherever he made acquaintances and with his jolly, genial disposition he made acquaintances readily. He became a member of Zealous lodge, No. 435, A.F. and A.M. March 1st, 1890, and later was a charter member when the local lodge was organized here and was a member at the time of his death. The Masonic lodge had charge of the funeral arrangements at Huron, the Presbyterian minister and choir taking their part of the service. He death, Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 11:10 was originally caused by typhoid and the ultimate cause of death an abscess on the liver. Besides his wife, three brothers, Jake of Huron, S. D., John, of Dakota and Ira of Idaho, and one sister, Mrs. Ida M. Comstock of North Manchester, Indiana, mourn his death.
