(Special Correspondence)
Delmar, Iowa, Nov. 20--Robert B. Bloom passed away Saturday morning at the home of his parents southwest of this city from an attack of peritonitis.

He had been ill but a few days and his condition became so serious on Saturday morning that an operation was deemed necessary in the hope of restoring his health, but he passed away before the surgeons could begin the ordeal. Born November 17th, 1900, in Eden township, the eldest son of William J. and Anna Bloom, his short life was truly one of usefulness. With an undaunted ambition, a cheerful disposition and a desire to be of service to others he easily made friends with all whom he came in contact with and his death comes as a sad blow to his friends as well as his many relatives.

His eagerness to do things made him a co-partner with his father in the management of affairs on the farm and the many cares thereon were but a part of life's work for him. Eager in quest of knowledge he took great interest in the work of the Farm Improvement league and entered many of the contests chartered by this association and in the Boys' and Girls Pork Contest at the Fair last fall his entry was the winner of first prize in its class and also captured the sweepstakes prize in the free for all contest. His entry in the baby beef contest was also a point winner finishing well up among the entries. He diligently attended the short course held under the same auspices last winter and in the final exams merited a "second". Graduating from Rural schools last spring he went to DeWitt and entered St. Joseph's Academy leaving school a week ago to help in the gathering of the corn crop. Leaving to mourn besides his grief stricken parents and grandmother at DeWitt are six sisters and two brothers as follows: Irene, Gertrude, Mary B., Harold, William Jr., Helen, Theresa and Louise. The funeral was held this morning at 9:30 at Welton with the pastor Rev. J. Ryan saying high mass of requiem and interment in the Catholic burying ground at DeWitt.
