DEATH CLAIMS AGED PIONEER OF CLINTON
ELI BURDICK PASSES AWAY ON TUESDAY EVENING
40 YEARS AN ENGINEER
In Northwestern Service 40 Years, He Has Been Pensioned Since 1901--Veteran of Civil War
Death claimed an honored veteran of the civil war and a pioneer in railroad circles Tuesday night at midnight when Eli Burdick 81 years old, died at his home 445 Fifteenth avenue, of the infirmities of old age.

Mr. Burdick has been a resident of Clinton since the civil war. He was in the service of the C. & N. W. railway company 40 years, retiring on a pension 16 years ago.

He was born in Caladonia, N.Y., August 15, 1835 and came to DeKalb, Ill. with his parents when a little boy settling on a farm in Illinois. Enlisting at the beginning of the war with Company B of the Eighth Illinois cavalry he served his country during the rebellion and when discharged entered the railway company's service as an engineer, continuing as such until his retirement August 1, 1901.

Mr. Burdick was married at Camanche June 22, 1870 to Miss Mary Vandewater. They were the parents of eight children, two of whom preceded their father in death. They were Cala and Wiliam. With the aged companion is left to mourn the loss of their father Arthur D and J. J. of Clinton, Leon F. of Chicago, Mrs. Guy Loveder of Aurora, Ill., Frank A. of Greenville, Miss. and Mrs. Hugh Ross of Armada, Kansas. Seven grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Burdick was a member of the General N. B.Baker post Grand Army of the Republic.

The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. George D. Rogers of the First Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be made in Springdale cemetery.

The funeral of Eli H. Burdick, civil war veteran and pioneer railroad engineer, will be held at the home, 445 Fifteenth avenue, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The N. B. Baker post, G.A.R. will have charge.
