page 3Reuben W. Mead passed away at 10:50 o'clock this morning at this home, 634 Ninth avenue, following an illness due to paralysis. Mr. Mead was stricken by paralysis last month, his right side having been afflicted. A second stroke today resulted in his death.
The funeral arrangements were not announced today, further than that the remains are to be sent to Thomson, Ill. for burial.
Mr. Mead was born in Warren county, New York on August 21st, 1838, and spent his early days in the east. He was married there in 1859 and came west ten years after settling at Thomson, Il. In 1880 he came to Clinton and had since made his home in this city. He was a veteran of the civil war having served four years in the union army and was a member of Gen. N. B. Baker post No. 88, G.A.R.
Mr. Mead during his long residence in Clinton won the confidence and esteem of hundreds of friends throughout the city.
Surviving the deceased are two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Emerson of Marion and Miss Maude Mead at home and two sons, Charles of Dubuque and George of Cedar Rapids. His wife passed away fifteen years ago.

page 7Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning for Reuben W. Mead who passed away Saturday morning after a brief illness due to paralysis. The body was taken at 1:30 to Thomson, Ill. for burial.
Mr. Mead leaves two daughters and two sons, Miss Maud of this city and Mrs. C. W. Emerson of Marion, Charles of Dubuque and George of Cedar Rapids.
