Grace Wampler, daughter of Peter and Rebecca Wampler was born at Frederick, Ill., December 22, 1847, and passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 19, 1916 at the home of her sister, Mrs. T. L. Connole at DeWitt, Iowa.
Her early life was spent at Frederick, Ill., from which place she removed to Fort Scott, Kansas in 1868.
In December 1877 she came to DeWitt, Iowa, where she has ever since made her home with her sister, Mrs. Connole.
Shortly after coming here, she united with the Congregational church, and all through her Christian life has followed the convictions of duty, which were ever in harmony with her disposition and character. She was ever modest and undemonstrative in her spirit and showed her abiding faith by the sweet and gentle savor of her life, rather than by words.
It is to her honor that all duties entrusted to her were discharged not only skillfully and faithfully, but with a tenderness and sympathy that gained her the lasting gratitude and love of those to whom she ministered and in the Connole home especially will she be missed, where the little children have been born and grown to mature manhood and womanhood knowing her only as a second mother.
Death came after an illness of several weeks duration, during which she cheerfully bore her suffering until she sank beneath the heavy burden.
She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, William Wampler of Virden, Ill., and four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Atkinson, Ipava, Ill., Mrs. Eva Beal, Macomb, Ill., Mrs. Charles Hinton, Virden, Ill., and Mrs. T. L. Connole, DeWitt, Ia.
Those present from out of town were Mrs. Eva Beal, and two daughters, Mrs. F. G. McClellan and Mrs. E. C. McGuire of Macomb, Ill., and Mrs. Charles Hinton of Virden, Ill.
