page 6Barney Wolke, who was found dead in a barn at his premises Tuesday afternoon, was not responsible for his deed when he ended his life with a rope. Mr. Wolke had not been in the best of health for some time and for the past few weeks had worried much over the illness of his only daughter, Mrs. Hana Sitzler and it is thought that the excessive heat was in part responsible for his act.
Mr. Wolke had been absent from the house only a short time when he was missed by his daughter, who searched for him and found his lifeless body. Barney Wolke was born in Germany Feb. 5, 1839, and came to this country at the age of 18 years. Some time after he was married and had always lived in this vicinity with his wife until her death about 18 years ago.
For a number of years Mr. Wolke farmed in this county and retired about 25 years ago to make his home in this city and since that time had lived at 524 North Seventh street. Mr. Wolke was one of the pioneers of this vicinity and is well known in the entire county. He had been able to be around and hence his presence among his friends will be greatly missed.
The deceased is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Sitzler; one son, August Wolke, of this city, and a grandson, Leo Jensen, all of whom have the sympathy of a host of friends.
The funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed.
