page 6Thomas J. Wilcox, a former Clinton business man and interurban railway promoter, died this morning at Independence. The body will be brought to Clinton Wednesday for interment. Mr. Wilcox is survived by his wife and daughter Rachel of Des Moines, Mrs. Warren Eastland and Mrs. Oliver Lutz of Clinton.

page 6The body of Thomas J. Wilcox, who died in Independence Tuesday, was brought to Clinton today by his son-in-law Warren C. Eastland. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Eastland home, 635 Second avenue. The Rev. N. A. McAulay of the Lyons Presbyterian church will preach the sermon, and at Springdale cemetery the Western Star lodge, A.F. & A.M. will take charge.
Mr. Wilcox was about 60 years of age. He has been in failing health for several years, the direct cause of his death being cerebral hemorrhage.
Born in Ohio, Mr. Wilcox came to Iowa when a young man, and followed the insurance business for several years. He was at one time owner and publisher of the Northwood Anchor, then an influential Republican newspaper. Later he was clery of the legislature, and during the McKinley campaign of 1896 he served as secretary to Mark Hanna. Mr. Wilcox was active in political affairs for many years. He was the direct promotor of the C.D. & M. Interurban, which was then the Iowa & Illinois road, and he was known in Clinton as an interurban promoter.
The family moved to Clinton 13 years ago. Those left to mourn the death of Mr. Wilcox are his wife, one son and four daughters, one son, George having preceded his father ten years ago. The daughters are Mrs. W. C. Eastland, Mrs. Oliver Lutz, Clinton; Mrs. Fred Eble, Sac City; Miss Rachel Wilcox, Des Moines. The son is Claude Wilcox, of Terre Haute, Ind.

page 7Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Thomas J. Wilcox, a former Clinton business man and interurban railway promoter of eastern Iowa, who passed away Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of several months. The Rev. N. A. McAulay of the Presbyterian church of Lyons had charge of the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Eastland, 635 Second avenue.
The Rev. G. R. Cady and Harry Andrews sang "A Perfect Day" and "Somewhere We'll Understand". The burial service was in charge of Western Star lodge of Masons, of which Mr. Wilcox was a member. The pall bearers were J. F. Reppy, L. L. Smullin, W. H. Carroll, John Mathiesen, Albert Lorenzen and J. Young.
The out-of-town friends and relatives here are: Mrs. T. J. Wilcox and daughter Rachel of Des Moines, Mrs. Fred Eble and baby of Sac City, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wilcox, Terre Haute, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Shaffer, Ralph Shaffer, Mrs. Robert Strong, Grace Strong, D. Leamer, Lawrence Leamer, Princeton; Mrs. H. Wittenberg, Jr. and daughter Ruth, Davenport; Mrs. Amil Eastland, Paul Eastland, Rock Island, Ill.
