George Humphrey, an old resident of Clinton and a veteran of the Civil war, died suddenly at Cedar Rapids Saturday. Mr. Humphrey was stricken while walking on the street and died soon afterwards. The remains were brought to Clinton at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, and the funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the residence, 625 First avenue, with interment in Springdale cemetery.

Mr. Humphrey was born in Licking county, Ohio, 77 years ago, and came to Clinton about 23 years ago. He was a brick layer and stone mason by trade, and worked at his occupation here for many years.

When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Co. G. Thirteenth Illinois Volunteers, and served honorably during the war.

Surviving him are his wife, two sons, L. L. and Fred Humphrey of Clinton, and three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Lisk of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Lizzie Broderson and Paule Humphrey of Clinton.

Mr. Humphrey left last Christmas for a visit with his daughter at Cedar Rapids, and had remained there until his death.

The funeral of the late George Owen Humphrey, who passed away in Cedar Rapids recently, was held this afternoon, Rev. G. R. Cady of the First Congregational church officiating. Musical selections were rendered by Misses Florence Bergendahl and Sybil Walliker. The Roy Humphrey Auxiliary of the Spanish War Veterans was named after a son of the deceased.
