Ferdinand Bickel, an old and highly respected citizen of Folletts, died today at his home there, after an illness of two days' duration. Mr. Bickel suffered a stroke of paralysis Monday morning from which he did not recover. He was 73 years of age and has been a resident of Clinton and Scott counties for more than fifty years.

His wife, two sons and three daughters, survive, all of whom together with two sisters, were at his bedside when the end came. They are Mrs. William Olinger, Davenport, Mrs. Ralph Harding, Folletts, Mrs. Elmer Baughman, Long Grove, Louis and Gustave, both of Long Grove. Both sisters live in Davenport.

The funeral will be held sometime Friday, the hour not having been set.

Funeral services for Ferdinand Bickel will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home in Folletts. The Rev. J. S. Leamer of the English Lutheran church will preach the sermon.

Mr. Bickel was born in Baden, Germany, March 7, 1843. He came to America when a small boy and lived for many years on a farm near LeClaire, later moving to Folletts. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having served with the Twentieth Iowa infantry in Company G. He enlisted August 15, 1862, and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. Death came after a few days' illness, Tuesday night at 8 o'clock.

November 22, 1868, Mr. Bickel was married to Elnora Czech, who with five children are left to mourn his death. Two children preceded the father. Seven sisters and three brothers are also left, and six grandchildren.

The children are Mrs. Olinger, Davenport; Mrs. Ralph Hardy, Folletts; Gustave Bickel, Eldridge; Louis Bickel, Long Grove; Mrs. Elmer Baughman, Eldridge. The brothers are Herman of Princeton, Charles of LeClaire and Max of Kimble, Neb. The sisters: Mrs. Mary Batch, Princeton; Mrs. Josephine Dressler, Princeton; Mrs. Helen Graham, Princeton; Mrs. Sophie Bell, St. Cloud, Minn.; Mrs. Carrie Condon, Pasadena, Cal.; Mrs. Mina Dornce, LeClaire, Mrs. Amelia Lamback, Davenport.

The sons and son-in-law and one grandson will act as pallbearers, and burial will be made in the Shaff cemetery.
