10 April 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Mrs. C. D. Brereton passed away Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home, 503 Hickory street, death resulting from an attack of pneumonia. The funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.

11 April 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Charles Brereton, who died Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at her home on Hickory street from a complication of diseases, will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock with requiem mass at St. Patrick's church, Clinton.

The funeral cortege will then proceed to DeWitt by automobile if the weather permits, otherwise by train, leaving Clinton at 11:50.

Elizabeth Tiernan was born in Ottawa, Canada, and came to Iowa with her family when a small child and resided north of DeWitt. She was united in marriage to Charles Brereton in DeWitt and many years ago moved to Clinton, where she had made her home ever since. Ten children were born to this union, seven of whom with her husband survive. They are: Mrs. Gertrude Lally of Lyons, Mrs. J. H. Bates of Chicago, Mrs. T. J. Murphy, Frank and Charles of Walnut, Ill., Verne and Arthur, at home. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Leahy of Denison and Mrs. Dr. Bracelin of Davenport.

12 April 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

In the presence of many friends and relatives from Clinton and other cities, of the late Mrs. Charles Brereton, final services were held at St. Patrick's church at 10 o'clock this morning.

Solemn high mass was celebrated, Reverend J. N. Murray, officiating. John Behan, an intimate friend of the family, sang the Ave Maria at the offertory. He also sang "A Perfect Day" and "Face to Face."

The cortege left Clinton at 11:50. Interment being made at DeWitt this afternoon.

13 April 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Chas. Brereton was held at St. Patrick's church Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. J. A. Murray, assisted by Rev. Father Peters, after which the remains were conveyed by auto to the last resting place at DeWitt, Ia. Relatives and friends from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bates, Chicago, Ill., Chas. Brereton, Walnut, Ill., Mrs. Anna Leahey, Denison, Ia., Mrs. P. M. Bracelin, Davenport, Ia., Mrs. Sue Tiernan, Scranton, Mr. Frank Tiernan, Mrs. Minnie Tiernan, Miss Tiernan, Davenport, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Tiernan, Mrs. P. MacDonald and sons, DeWitt, Mrs. Chas. McDevitt, DeWitt.
