Huron Lake aged 71 years died suddenly about 10 o'clock Monday morning at his home, 313 Oak street, he death being the result of a stroke of heart failure following an indiposition of several day's duration. Mrs. Lake will take the body to the old home at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., for interment. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed.
Born in Poughkeepsie, October 30, 1842, Mr. Lake was nearing his seventy-first birthday. He came here in 1888 from Poughkeepsie and with Mrs. Lake was for twenty years engaged on the Mississippi river steamers, both as cooks. Mr. Lake was a naval veteran of the civil war and from 1875 to 1878 was chief of police in Poughkeepsie. In his youth he was a member of the New York city police department. He was a stone-mason by trade.
Mr. Lake was married in May, 1867, to Miss Susan C. Hill who is left to mourn his death. No children remain. Two brothers and two sisters, however, reside in New York state.
