8 May 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Saturday evening at 6:45 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Ellen Sullivan (nee Harrison) at the home 520 South Sixth street, after an illness of five months, death being due to grief and complications of diseases.

Miss Ellen Harrison was born in Ireland some 77 years ago and after coming to this country was married by Father Ford at Dixon, Ill., to David L. Sullivan, who preceeded her in death, April 11, 1908. Shortly after being married they came to this city, which was in the year 1860 and later went to New Orleans where they remained until the outbreak of the Civil war and Mrs. Sullivan returned to this city on the last steamer up the Mississippi river before the blockade, while Mr. Sullivan enlisted in Inland Navy Service.

At this time two of Mrs. Sullivan's brothers, Patrick and George Harrison also enlisted in the army at Cairo, Ill. and were never heard of, their whereabouts are unknown.

Mrs. Sullivan was the mother of nine children the only survivor being Miss Ella Sullivan, who has taken care of her mother since her first illness and spared no pains to make her comfortable.

The deceased was always identified with public works such as the Veterans Fireman and Woodmen and was well liked by her many friends. During her illness she was known as a patient sufferer and her friends will be deeply grieved to learn of her death.

Funeral services will be held at St. Irenaeus church at nine o'clock Tuesday morning with a Requiem High mass by Father Comerford and burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
