MAN KILLED BY TRAIN NEAR HERE

Picked up on the Chicago & Milwaukee right of way near Wheatland at 10:30 this morning with both feet badly mangled and his head bruised and torn, William Stuff, aged 35, died in the Northwestern station there at 1 o'clock this afternoon.

He was unconscious when found and efforts to revive him before he died were futile.

The body was discovered by P. G. Schneider, who was passing south of the Yankee Run bridge on the Milwaukee tracks. The unconscious man was lying close to the rails, with one foot torn entirely off and the other partially severed from the limb.

Assistance was called from Wheatland and the man taken to the Northwestern station there, a call being sent to Clinton to the effect that the body would arrive on the afternoon train.

At 1 o'clock, however, word was received here that the man had died, and the coroner left at 2 o'clock to hold an inquest.

William Stuff had lived in the vicinity of Wheatland for several months, although he had no relatives in this county. It is stated that he is survived by some distant relatives living somewhere in Indiana, and it is probable that the body will be sent there for burial.

Stuff had probably been walking along the track toward Wheatland early in the morning, the 6:28 train coming up from behind him.
