23 March 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Grand Mound, Ia., March 23. The death of Mrs. Catharine Meints, the aged mother of John and Christ Meints, occurred suddenly at the home of the last named Wednesday afternoon from heart failure. Despite the fact she was 85 years of age she had not been complaining of ill health and was sitting quietly in her chair with her granddaughters in the room, when they discovered that she had passed away.

No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Meints, who passed away last Wednesday afternoon from heart failure, will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock to the German Lutheran church, where services will be held, followed by burial in Evergreen cemetery.

Grand Mound, Ia. March 28 -- The funeral of the late Mrs. Catherine Wriedt Meints, who died very suddenly at the home of her son, Chris, on last Wednesday afternoon was held Saturday afternoon, with services at the German Lutheran church. Rev. L. Eschbach, pastor, had charge of the services. The funeral was largely attended by old-time friends and neighbors, who assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed one. Undertaker J. W. Kelly was funeral director. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.

The pall bearers were the following named six grandsons of the decedent: Harry, Carl, Herbert, Harry and Arthur Meints and Will Rusch.

The deceased was born in Felde, near Wetense, Holstein, Germany, on July 27th, 1831, where she was later married to Claus Fr. Meints. To this union 7 children were born, two of whom died in infancy in Germany. In 1875 the family came to America and settled on the farm just south of Grand Mound, where the deceased has lived ever since. On Sept. 6, 1882, the husband and father died, since when the aged mother has resided with her children. At the time of her demise she was 84 years, 8 months and 25 days of age.

She is survived by Ernest Meints of Los Gatus, California, Chris and John, living south of town, Henry J. of Dixon, Iowa, Mrs. Tiene Toms, of Davenport; also 27 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Matz of Alliance, Neb., and three sisters in Germany, besides hosts of friends who extend condolences to those bereft of a kind and loving mother and grandmother.
