Alfred Harvey Cruson was born near Kingston, Wisconsin April 5th, 1859. He died Feb. 17, 1916, at his home in Calamus, aged 56 years, 10 months and 12 days.
He came to Iowa with his parents when but a child, and lived for a short time near Silver Creek, DeWitt, Iowa. Then they moved on what is known as the Barber farm north of Calamus, and from there they moved and settled permanently on their farm one mile north of Calamus.
On Jan. 1, 1881, he was married to Miss Alice Scott of Calamus. They lived together thirty-five years. To this union was born two children, one son, Clyde Scott Cruson, who died in infancy, and one daughter, Gladys Leola, who was married to Alfred Andersen March 16, 1911.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, his daughter, Gladys and her husband and one grandchild, Genevieve, of this place; also two brothers and two sisters, Will Cruson of Rock Island, Justace Cruson of Calamus and Ella and Mary Cruson of Mt. Vernon, and two nephews, Charley Cruson of Davenport and Howard Cruson of Calamus, besides a host of friends and neighbors.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was converted to Christ through the leading and teaching and example of Rev. J. Q. Robinson, who is with us today to perform the last sad rites for the dead.
Mr. Cruson was a kind and indulgent husband and father, always looking well to the comfort of his family. His pleasant face and genial ways will long live in the memory of his friends and loved ones.
