Funeral services for the late Larry Clinton Button, who passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Charles W. Brogan, 224 Sixth avenue, Saturday morning were held this afternoon from the Brogan home followed by interment in Springdale cemetery.
The deceased was until rather recently residing with Mrs. Button, in New York City, where he had been actively engaged in promotion enterprises being associated with a well known financier with offices in the New York Stock exchange district. Last winter he was suddenly taken ill and was compelled to suspend business duties and seek medical attention, however in spite of all that could be done his decline was gradual, even after he had removed to this city in the hopes that the change of climate might benefit his health, and his death followed there on Saturday.
Mr. Button was of that fine old Kentucky lineage and his passing will leave a last memory of a unique and enviable distinction in that he was the father by his first marriage of the youngest American soldier who fought in the World war. His son Rhea at the age of 15 years, after many unsuccessful attempts at enlistment in the American Expeditionary forces was finally mustered into federal service after the successful intercession in his behalf, of the Adjutant General at Washington, made by Judge R. F. Peet of Louisville, Ky. A special order was issued allowing the young man to enlist and proceed overseas where, in the never to be forgotten Argonne Forest engagement in July, 1918, he gave to his country the highest testimonial of his patriotism and loyalty by the gallant sacrifice of his young life on that torn and bloody battlefield of France.
A step brother of Mr. Button's Thomas L. Button, Jr. was also killed in action in Siberia, being 25 years of age at the time of his death.
