17 February 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Toronto, Iowa. Feb. 17.--Mr. Wm. Brauer passed away Saturday night. Mr. Brauer, one of our aged and respected citizens, died at his home in Toronto Saturday night, after an illness of a few weeks.

Mr. Brauer's illness started with the la grippe, followed with other complications, a light stroke of paralysis, a rupture of a blood vessel in his head of which he has been a patient sufferer for about three weeks. Mr. Brauer was 68 years of age at his death, and leaves a wife and several children to mourn him. Full obituary next week.

Wm. Brauer was born in Germany Dec. 3rd, 1848, and died at his home in Toronto, Iowa, January 13th 1916, aged 67 years, 2 months and 19 days.

Mr. Brauer leaves to mourn him, a kind and loving wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Kramer of Clarence and Rudie of Lowden, two children having passed away in Germany. He also leaves seven grand children, one brother in Germany and one sister, Mrs. Amelia Dalldorf of Davenport.

Funeral services were held from the school house on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Lowden minister had charge of the services, after which the remains were conveyed to their last resting place in the Protestant cemetery here, followed by a large concourse of friends and neighbors, who turned out to pay their last respects. Mr. Brauer was a good husband, a kind father, and a good man, held in high esteem by all.
