KILLED BY CARS
THOMAS FARRELL HAS HEAD SMASHED BY A TRAIN
Was Jumping on and off Trains in the Yards
Thomas Farrell, a fourteen year-old boy met with a serious accident Sunday afternoon while attempting to board a moving train, which resulted in his death at Mercy Hospital some twelve hours later. With a number of other small boys he was spending the afternoon in the North Western yards jumping on and off moving trains. In attempting to board one of them he was running along the side of the train heedless where he was going, when he slipped over a box in which the car repairers were in the habit of keeping tools, waste, etc. He fell to the ground, his head coming in violent contact with the journal box on one of the cars, injuring him frightfully. He was removed to the Mercy hospital where the best medical attention was given him but all efforts for saving him were in vain and he died at 5 o'clock Monday morning.
The boy was the son of Thomas Farrell who is employed in the North Western shops. The boy himself was employed at the Clinton Saddlery Co. The accident while the natural result of playing with danger, is none the less sorrowful to the family, of the deceased, who will receive the sympathy of their friends. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
