The Clinton Herald Wednesday October 21, 1932 p 5 Funeral services for John H. Dunmore, Officer of the Day for Gen. N.B. Baker post, 88, G.A.R., and senior vice commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Iowa, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Rockwell Mortuary chapel. The Rev. H.E. Harned of the First Congregational church will officiate and the Grand Army ritual will be observed. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery, men from the United Spanish War Veterans camp and Van Meter American Legion post serving as pallbearers and attendants. The body will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Cullen, 243 Eighteenth place, Thursday morning and remain there until Friday forenoon, so that friends may call. Mr. Dunmore succumbed to an unexpected heart attach. He had been down town Monday and Tuesday morning and had busied himself about the house as usual, He passed away at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday. John Dunmore was born in Schenectady, N.Y., March 19, 1947, and moved to Sterling, Ill., with his parents when but seven years of age. There he grew to manhood, enlisting at the age of seventeen as one of the "One Hundred Day" boys for Civil war service, Co. A, 140th Illinois Volunteers. He was married in 1869 to Miss Sarah Miles of Sterling. To them were born two daughters, Mrs. Grace Offolder who died in Kadoka, S.D., about four years ago, and Mrs. John Cullen of Clinton, also a son who died in infancy. After the death of his first wife Mr. Dunmore married Miss Leette McDonald also of Sterling, who preceeded him in death leaving one son, Roy Dunmore, of Philips, S.D. There are nine grandchildren, and two nieces, Mrs. Edith Hacker of Milledgeville and Mrs. Cora Ports of Sterling. Mr. Dunmore first came to Clinton forty years ago and soon became identified with the Grand Army post in which all the offices at different times. He was elected senior vice commander of the department of Iowa at the last reunion and had been looking forward to a possibility of election to the office of commander. He also had been planning a trip to California. For the past twenty years he had made his home with his daughter. Lieut. George M. Michelsen camp, U.S.W.V. and Clinton county post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, had elected him to honorary membership. Possessed of unusual health for his years, Mr. Dunmore was much sought for patriotic talks and loved to assist in the entertainment of school children on their special school days. He was also quite renowned as a buck and wing dancer and up to the last few years was featured at both national and state encampments in this specialty.
