Clifton A. Peters, 91, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Alverno Clinton.
Family graveside services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Springdale Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the Clinton A.M.V.E.T.S. The family will be greeting friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.
Clifton Alfred Peters was born January 18, 1926 in Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Alma (Lagheim) Peters. He was a graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Catherine E. Fisher on February 18, 1950; she preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Vivian Nielsen on June 2, 2001.
Cliff joined the Clinton Fire Department in June 1952 and retired in April 1984 as Clintons first Fire Marshall.
He is survived by his wife Vivian of Clinton; one daughter: Debra (Steve) Augspurger of Dubuque, Iowa; two granddaughters: Christine (Sean Mattingly) Augspurger of Iowa City, Iowa and Katherine Augspurger of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three step-grandchildren: David Nielsen of Spokane, Washington, Deborah (Jerry) Lampe of Clinton, Iowa and Brent (Colleen) Nielsen of Camanche; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister: Carole Yeoman of Maquoketa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Cliff enjoyed spending time volunteering at the Clinton Arboretum. He was a member or past member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, N.R.A. International Wildfowl Carvers Association, North American Bluebird Society Inc., Iowa Wild Life Federation, and the Izzak Walton League.
He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, his parents, four sisters and one brother.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Samaritan Hospice or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
