Dale L. "Scotty" Scott 91 of Clinton, Iowa went to his heavenly home on Thursday
May 4th. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 10th at 10:30 am at St. John's Lutheran Church. There will be a viewing an hour before the service beginning at 9:30
AM. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 pm Tuesday May 9th at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery in rural Bryant. Pallbearers will be grandsons Wesley and Jeremy Hook, Craig Dykstra, Kenny Swanton, Jason Scott, Don Gabel, Benjamin Scott and Tyler Lafferty. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Vinson, Spencer Scott, and Tyson, Dion and Devin Aye. Dale L. "Scotty" Scott was born in Lost Nation June 19, 1925. The Son of Lester and Edna "Grace" (Schocker) Scott. He had one sister Donna Suthers Hardin of Maquoketa. Dale graduated from Baldwin High School in 1943. He attended Maquoketa Community College until he enlisted in the service. Dale served in World War II stationed in Korea. He was a corporal in communications and served as an MP and supply clerk from April 2, 1945 to June 22, 1946. Dale originally trained for the invasion of mainland Japan.
In 1946 Dale met his life-long soulmate Carla Marie Wolff of Chicago, Illinois. A mutual friend setup their blind date. They married in 1947 so their 70th Wedding Anniversary will be June 7, 2017. Dale and Carla farmed for nine years in the Lost Nation and Wyoming, Iowa area until they moved to Clinton. He worked for Interstate Power Company for 15 years before retiring. 4H Clubs enjoyed his presentations on electricity for many years. Dale worked for Ross River selling Wick buildings and A.O. Smith Harvesters and feed systems and later sold Na Churs Liquid Fertilizer, O's Gold and Asgrow seed and Moorman feeds. In his early years he played on basketball and baseball traveling teams. Bowling was another favorite pastime. Dale bowled in leagues at the Plaza Bowl, Imperial Lanes in Camanche and the Recreation Lanes. Dale was a Clinton Little League Baseball coach for the Indians. He coached his sons for 12 years. Dale was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan who lived to see the Cubs finally win the World Series. He loved to dance and sing.
Dale was a dedicated father and grandfather following his children and grandchildren in their many activities. He always kept his grandchildren entertained with their favorite Cheetos and Welch's grape soda pop. Dale was survived by his wife Carla of 69 years; his sister Donna Harden of Maquoketa; his six children, Sharon (Larry) Hook of Thomson, IL, Wendy (Denny) Aye of Oakland, CA, Gregory (Chris) Scott of Quincy, IL, David (Terry) Scott of Bettendorf, IA, Penny (Dave) Swanton of Goose Lake, IA and Donald (Christine) Scott of Johnston, IA; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Grace Scott.
