Richard H. Clausen, age 75, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Mercy Living Center South. Visitation will be held Monday, May 8th, at the Pape Funeral Home at 10:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday. Following the service, his body will be donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program in Iowa City. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
Richard was born on June 11, 1941, on a farm in Clinton County, IA, the son of Harold and Effie (Jones) Clausen. He graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1959 and later received his BA degree in Business Education and Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, in 1969. He served in the US Army in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965-1967. He married Mary Knight on June 5, 1971, in Clinton.
He was a school teacher at the Preston High School for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, making knives and sheaths, loved traveling, had a true love of nature, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Clausen of Clinton; eight children: Penny Clausen of Davenport, Joe Clausen of Clinton, Tim (Paula) Clausen of Lisbon, IA, Tonya (Robert Hess) Cairo of Lebanon, OR, Charles Clausen of Clinton, Maxine (Walter) Bell of Clinton, Jeremy (Nicole Shea) Clausen of Dubuque, and Owen (Katie Clubb) Clausen of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren, Kayla, Ron, Jessica, Evan, Bryce, Chloe, Kylie, Caitlyn, Colton, Ben, MaKayla, Ashlei, Alex, Zach, and Keeleigh; 8 great grandchildren: Zane, Brooklyn, Matthew, Thomas, Baily, Jasmaine, Kailyn, and Konley; five sisters, Fern (Harold Poggenpohl) Ackermann of Bellevue, Patsey Farrell of Goose Lake, Peggy (Leo Martens) Stevens of Baldwin, Judy (Lynn) Soenksen of LeClaire, and Charlotte (Curt) Pefferman of Goose Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Tanya Soenksen, a nephew, Mike Stevens, and two brothers-in-law, Verlyn Ackermann and Kenny Farrell.
