JoAn J. Thomsen, age 86 of Clinton, formerly of Miles, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9-11 AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. A memorial service will begin at 11 AM Wednesday. Lunch will immediately follow the memorial service. Burial will be at Miles Cemetery following the lunch. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
JoAn was born in Clinton on August 5, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Lizzetta (Smith) Watters. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1948. JoAn married Eugene Thomsen on January 21, 1951 in Clinton. Eugene passed away on May 17, 2014. JoAn had been employed as a bookkeeper at Feeders Supply in Miles and later worked for Clinton National Bank in Miles and Preston. She was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church and had served as director of the Great River Threshers and of the Miles Elderly Housing.
JoAn is survived by three daughters; Peggy (Allen) Gerdes of Lebanon, IL, Kimberly (Michael) Cummings of Sabula and Jill (Michael) Thompson of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Sandi) Gerdes, Luke Gerdes, Ryan Cummings, Jenna (Keith) Jensen, Chad Reynolds, Ashley (Chris) Beers and Cole Thompson; five great grandchildren, Annastasia, Landen, Brooklyn, Brayden and Kaylin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene and a brother Richard. Memorials can be made to Camp Courageous or Faith Lutheran Church in Andover.
