Ralph W. Thompson, age 86 of Clinton, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home. In following his wishes cremation rites will be accorded. There are no services planned. Burial will be at a later date in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ralph was born in Spring Valley, IL on February 15, 1931, the son of Ralph L. and Alma (Wiese) Thompson. Ralph married Helen Morton on February 17, 1952 in Chillicothe, OH. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was employed at Northwestern Bell retiring in 1984. Ralph and Helen enjoyed spending winters in Arizona before finally moving there for 17 years and returning to Clinton in 2015. They had traveled to every state but Hawaii and Alaska. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and was a jack of all trades who enjoyed photography and woodworking.

Ralph is survived by his wife Helen; two sons, Marvin (LaVonne) Thompson of Clinton and Ray (Sandra) Thompson of Washington, IL; three grandchildren, Jessica Craig, William Thompson and Taylor Thompson; six great grandchildren, Brecken, Broden, Zachery, Marin, Liam and Guinevere and a nephew, David Christiansen of Blue Island, IL.
