The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, April 9, 1886

Another one of our old and respected citizen, and honored veteran solider, Moses T. Sweeney has answered to the last roll call, and reported for his reward to the Commander of the Grand Army of those who have gone before. At 10 o’clock Saturday morning Mr. M. T. Sweeney who had been ill for a number of weeks passed quietly to rest surrounded by his relatives and friends. He was born in Northumberland County, Penn., January 19, 1823, and came to Iowa at a comparatively early day. He served in the war in the 26th Iowa under Col. Milo Smith and at the close of the rebellion settled in this city. The funeral took place from the M. E. Church on Tuesday morning, with services by Rev. J. A. Ward. The remains were interred in the Camanche Cemetery beside those of his relatives.

Gen. N. Baker, Post, G. A. R. occupied the front row of seats as a guard of honor paid their last respects to the dead solider.

Solider, rest: they warfare o’er.
Sleep the sleep that knows no breaking;
Dream of battlefields no more.
Days of danger – nights of waking.
