The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, April 25, 1884

Mr. Jacob Ruff, an old man about 80 years died at his home on the Mill Creek Road, last Sunday. For a long time past he has been kept up by offering of charity furnished by kind neighbors who frequently called to look after the welfare of the indigent octogenarian. He was entirely alone when he breathed his last and so far as known leaves no relation. His remains were taken charge by the poor master and he was given a burial by the county.

Members of Mr. Thomas’ family visited him Sunday morning and found him about as usual and apparently no worse. In the afternoon Mrs. Churcher called and found life extinct.
