The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 28, 1881

Tuesday evening brought sadness into the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Skewes, their eldest daughter, Nellie, being called away by death. Miss Nellie has passed fifteen happy years in Clinton, and made friends of all her associates, teachers and acquaintances. For the past year she has been suffering from that dread disease, consumption, which culminated, on Tuesday last, in her death at the early age of 19 years. Miss Nellie will be sadly missed in the Sunday School of the Congregational Church, of which in health she was a regular attendant. A large circle of warm friend’s tender sympathy to the mourning family.

The funeral will take place this morning at 10 o’clock from the family residence on Sixth Avenue, with services at the house, by Rev. W. L. Bray.
