Ruth Ann Smith age 69, of Sabula, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula. A memorial fund has been established in Ruth's memory. Ruth was born on September 22, 1947 in Welch, West Virginia, the daughter of Orie Elvon and Myrtle (Hicks) Bowling. She attended Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia and graduated with the Class of 1965. On July 22, 1967, Ruth married the love of her life David Smith in Sabula. They celebrated 49 years of marriage. Ruth was a homemaker for many years and worked intermittingly at the Sabula Speaker Factory and Products Unlimited in Sabula.
Ruth was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Sabula. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and friends. Most of all, Ruth treasured spending time with her grandchildren.
Ruth will be dearly missed by her husband, Dave; daughter, Yvonne (Jeff) Weimerskirch of Spragueville, Iowa; three sons, Charles (Sheila) Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kenneth Smith of Savanna, Tony (Ria) Smith of Richlands, North Carolina; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; three brothers, Ronald (Rodessa) Bowling of Madison Heights, Virginia, James (Judy) Bowling of Sabula, Iowa, Daniel Bowling of Monroe, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; Mother and father in-law, Richard and Violet Smith; daughter in-law, Stacie Smith; a sister and a brother.
