Mary Alice Harlock, age 92 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at her home. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday Oct. 22nd from 1-3 PM at her daughter Mary’s home at 538 6th Avenue South in Clinton. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mary was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on September 13, 1924, the daughter of James and Alice (Montgomery) Hamilton. She married Vernon H. Harlock on February 22, 1941 in Clinton and together had seven children. Mary was a supervisor at Clinton Garment Company before becoming a seamstress instructor at Jobs Corps. She then began working in the food service industry for many years, owning and operating Mary’s Café on South Fourth Street for about 25 years, and ending her career at HyVee Food Store and retiring at the age of 82. Mary enjoyed bowling, where she had an average of 163, knitting and crocheting. Mary is survived by five children, Laura Jensen, Mary Soibel and Steve Harlock all of Clinton, Grace Brown of WI, and Walter Harlock of TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a very dear friend of over 50 years, Elene Petersen. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon H. Harlock, and two children, Vernon and James Harlock. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
