Tri-Weekly Herald Thursday July 26, 1900 p. 5 The hand of death fell heavily on a Lyons home Tuesday, when Mrs. Patrick Jordan, after a long period of intense suffering, passed away. Death, which although expected for many days, renders none of the less poignant the grief of those left behind to mourn the loss of a faithful wife, a good mother and a true friend. Mrs. Jordan had been ill for many months with a complication of diseases, which defied the skill of physicians, and for the past few weeks her death has been expected at almost any time. Although her sufferings were great, they were endured with Christian fortitude and resignation. Last Friday evening a sudden change for the worse came, and Mrs. Jordan received the last sacraments and prepared for the end, which it was plainly seen, was not for distant. Since that time she constantly grew weaker, until 8 o'clock that morning, when the final summons came, and she passed peacefully to her reward. The deceased was born in Grenbush, N.Y., in 1844, and during the past 30 years had made her home in Lyons. Surviving her are her husband and two daughters. They are Mrs. Philip Duffy of Chicago, who is expected to arrive this afternoon, and Miss Martha Jordan, at home. She also leave a sister, Mrs. McManus of Boone, and three brothers, John McGrath of Teeds Grove, Hugh of Clay County, and Thomas McGrath of this city, also her aged mother, Mrs. McGrath. During her long residence in Lyons Mrs. Jordan had won the friendship of hundreds throughout the city, and her death will be deeply mourned by all who knew her.
