Mae Marie (Tietjens) Gates age 93 of Preston passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May26 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church, Andover. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Thursday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mae was born in Preston on May 30, 1922, the daughter of Wayne and Mabel (Frahm) Farley. She graduated from Preston High School. Mae married Gilbert Tietjens on September 17, 1941 in Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Gilbert passed away on October 18, 1981. She later married John Gates on July 14, 1984 in Andover. John passed away on June 25, 1996. Mae was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She had been employed at the Sabula Speaker Factory, International Paper, Sterling Motel and as a homemaker. Mae enjoyed gardening, antiquing, sewing, feeding the birds, eating pizza, and she always remembered to send a birthday card to all her loved ones every year. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters. She loved attending family gatherings for holidays and birthdays and watching all the children in her life in their various sports and school activities. Mae is survived by five children; Steve (Darlene) Tietjens of Sabula, Louis (Mary) Tietjens of Clermont, FL, Lois (Richard) Feddersen of rural Clinton, Marcia (Gene) Camp of Preston and Tom (Ronda) Tietjens of rural Clinton; a step-daughter, Pat (David) Gates-Gregg of Warsaw, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Norma Claussen of Preston, Janet Farley of Las Vegas, Evelyn (Duane) Hagge of rural Clinton and Roberta Haley of Clinton and many nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donnie, Keith and Leland and two sisters, Loleta and Kathleen. Online condolences may be left at www.papewfh.com.
