Richard J. “Rich” Timmer age 90, of Davenport formerly of Clinton, Iowa passed away Thursday morning April 28, 2016 at Manor Care in Davenport. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass for Richard J. Timmer will be held at the Church of the Visitation in Camanche on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rich requested that memorials be made to the Low Moor Lions club or to the Church. The Pape Funeral Home of Clinton, Iowa is assisting with all arrangements. Richard J. Timmer was born in rural Preston, Iowa April 14, 1926 to William F. Timmer and Clara Luedtke Timmer he was the sixth child in a family of eleven. He graduated from Preston High School in 1944 and joined the US Army Air Corp where he was stationed in the Pacific Theatre at first in combat and later as a part of the Army of Occupation in Japan in operation of the railroads there. He returned home in 1946 as a Sergeant. Following his military service he worked in Feed Sales until completion of training as an Ophthalmic Optician from the University of Indiana. Richard worked in the office of Drs. Simmons and Butler for many years and later ran his own Optical Shoppe on Fifth Avenue South in Clinton. His motto was C Me 2 C. Richard married Alice Pauline Lollich on February 16, 1952 in Lyons. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1996. Rich was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Camanche, the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, The Low Moor Lions Club and an honorary member of the Clinton High Twelve Club. He was a past member of the Clinton Down Town Association and a Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for which he was awarded the Karl Schmitz Outstanding Ambassador Memorial Award. In addition to his wife, Rich was preceded in death by his siblings: Albert Timmer, Mary Behr, Genevieve Schuetzle, Robert Timmer, Rita Timmer, Clara Timmer, Rose Curtis, Dolores Eisenbeis, Frances and Francis Timmer whom died in infancy. He is survived by a brother-in-law Clayton Schuetzle, many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
