Jackie "Jack" D. James, 80, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack was born April 7, 1936 in Barnard, Kansas the son of Howard H. and Marjorie (Burns) James. He was a graduate of Concordia High School in Concordia, Kansas. Jack was united in marriage to Rosalie Andrews on April 3, 1956 in Bettendorf, Iowa - they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage!
Jack was an over the road truck driver for 43 years. For 14 of those years he was an owner/operator, driving for Western Transportation. Jack would eventually retire in 2000 with Carry Transit.
Jack loved watching NASCAR races, his all-time favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs baseball team and he was an avid animal lover. Jack also enjoyed playing cards with long time friends Larry and Nelly. Above all he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Jack is survived by his wife Rose James of Clinton, IA; one daughter - Deb (Steve) Sandholdt of Clinton, IA; three sons - Jack (Barb) James of Mackinaw, IL, Tim (Anne) James of Clearwater, FL, Doug (Kim) James of Saint Louis, MO; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers - Dick (Cathy) James of Clinton, IA and Jim (Sue) James of Camanche, IA, with many nieces, nephews, cousins and the many friends he has met throughout his life.
Preceding Jack in death were his parents, one brother- Bill James, two brother in-laws- Jack Curtis and Clyde Andrews and two sister in-laws- Shari Kieler and Carol McGrowski.
The family of Jack James would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown to us during a very difficult time and the loss of our loved one.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made can be directed to the National Diabetes Association or Washington University - Siteman Cancer Center in Jack's name.
