Herman Barsema, 88, of Clinton passed away, Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Alverno – Clinton.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Moose Lodge in Clinton. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes is assisting the family with the cremation. A private burial will take place in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.

Herman Barsema was born July 14, 1927 in Fulton, Illinois, the son of Derk and Grace (Hook) Barsema. He married his wife Marian on March 2, 1945; she preceded him in death in 2003.

Herman retired from DuPont in 1985. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was an avid Chicago Cub’s fan and NASCAR fan; his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.

He is survived by his two daughters: Betty (Dan) Moore-Sullivan of Clinton and Penny (David) Bidrawn of Clinton; four grandchildren: Lois (John) Wilson of Davenport, Florida, Christine (Jason) Grant of Clinton, Brian (Heather) Barsema of Jacksonville, Florida, and Laurie (Steve) Marmon of Mountain View, California; eight great grandchildren: Alex, Nathaniel, Matthew, Delaney, Ashley, Kyle, Bradley, and Bridgette; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Herman was preceded in death by his parents, one son William Barsema, six brothers, and six sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Alverno.
