Wheatland Farmer Killed When Struck By Train

Wheatland, Nov. 14 - Wm. Kelting, sr., 62 years of age, retired farmer, of Wheatland, was killed when struck by a train one-half mile east of Wheatland last night. His body was found by trainmen this morning, lying within a few feet of the track. It was badly mangled.

Mr. Kelting had resided in Wheatland for the past eight years. About 5 o'clock last night he was seen walking down the railroad tracks, carrying a gun. The muzzle of the gun was stuck into the ground and the weapon was discharged when the train struck him.

Mr. Kelting was born in Germany. He came to United States when nine years of age with his parents. For many years he farmed south of this city. His wife preceded him in death three weeks. Seven children survive: Philip and Mrs. Emil Laschansky of near Wheatland, Mrs. C. H. Burhop of Minnesota, George of Davenport, Walter of Nebraska and Bernard and Wm. Jr. of Bennett, Ia.
