Barbara Smith Powell, 92, of Camanche, passed away, Monday, February 1, 2016, at her home in Camanche.

Services will be 10:30am, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church – Camanche. Visitation will be from 9:30am to the service time Wednesday at the church. Following the services her body will be cremated and internment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery – Camanche. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara was born on June 21, 1923 in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar and Pearl (Jackson) Stone. She attended the West Union, Iowa schools. She attended and graduated from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, and graduated from Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls in 1943. She taught kindergarten and the primary grades from 1943 to 1952 in northeast Iowa and Clinton. She was married to Marquis I. Smith in 1952, until his death in 1970. She married Dale C. Powell in 1972 in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

Barbara was a member of many organizations, including Samaritan Health Systems, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem-Maja Shrine #26, Women of the Moose Chapter #474, the Clintones, First Baptist Church in Camanche, the Clinton YWCA and the Daughters of the Nile. She was also a former member of the board of the Visiting Nurses. She enjoyed swimming, golf, aerobics, music, and books.

Barbara is survived by her husband: Dale of Camanche; her son and daughter-in-law: Thomas and Debra Smith; grandson: Kyle Smith and his wife Karin of Peoria, Illinois, daughter: Leslie Smith of Savanna, Illinois; her brother: Robert Stone of Waterloo, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
