Kathy Goetzl, 51, of Clinton, passed away after a courageous battle on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Saturday, January 9, 2015 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory with a vigil service concluding the visitation at 8:00pm.

Kathryn Ann Espey was born on July 19, 1964 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Sally (Sloppy) Espey. She was a 1982 graduate of Clinton High School and attended nursing school at Northeast Community College in Peosta. She married David Goetzl on August 29, 1987 in Clinton.

Kathy started her 29 year nursing career in 1986 as a RN at Jane Lamb Hospital and later Mercy Medical Center serving a majority of the time on the Medical/Surgical floor. She was recently serving as a radiation/oncology nurse. She received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in 2012 to honor the superhuman work nurses do for patients and families everyday.

Kathy was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and enjoyed spending time with her family, her greatest joy in life.

Kathy is survived by the loves of her life including her husband: David of Clinton; two daughters: Alyson (Corey) Moen of Des Moines, Iowa, Megan (Matt Zimmer) Goetzl of Clinton; her sister: Kerri (Michael) Brisch of Clinton; five brothers: Dave (Lori) Espey of Camanche, Tom (Becky) Espey of Iowa City, Bart (Deb) Espey of Clinton, Mike (Peggy Westphalen) Espey of Clinton, and Bill (Kerry) Espey of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews including her special Godchildren: Samantha and Andrew Brisch, and her work family at Mercy Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Memorials can be made to her family for a tribute to be made in Kathy’s name.
