David T. Sheridan 65, of Long Grove, died Monday evening, December 28, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

David Thomas Sheridan was born July 30, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, to Vincent “Babe” Adrian and Gladys Catherine (Thiel) Sheridan. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, DeWitt up through the 12th grade and was a 1969 graduate of North Scott High School. Following graduation he attended St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Dave served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, being stationed at Point Mugu, California. On August 6, 1994, David was united in marriage to Sandra Elizabeth Van Hyfte at St. Ann Catholic Church, Long Grove. Early in life he was employed at Ennis Business Forms of DeWitt. Dave then went on to work at the Rock Island Arsenal, United States Armament Command and retired in May of 2010 following 38 ˝ years of service. For the past 10 years, David was the friendly face with the big smile at Barnes Foodland, DeWitt.

He was a lifelong active member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Long Grove where he served on Parish Council, was a First Communion Sponsor, an usher, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee. Dave was also a member of the Donahue American Legion Post for 45 years. He loved his customers at Barnes’, auctioneering, yard work, dancing, spending time by the pool, watching movies and television.

Surviving are his loving wife of 21 years, Sandy; siblings, Jacqueline Spain of Lost Nation, Ronald and Bonnie Sheridan of Zumroda, Minnesota, Barbara and John Hanrahan of DeWitt, Dennis Sheridan of Glendale Heights, Illinois and Mary Reed of Smithshire, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding David in death were his parents; a sister, Yvonne Leidenfrost, and a brother-in-law, Darrell Spain.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Ann Catholic Church, Long Grove, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, with a prayer service at at 2:45 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Saturday, January 2. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with Msgr. Drake Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or to the family in David’s name.

Pallbearers will be Vincent Spain, Mark Hanrahan, Shane Reed, Amy Hanrahan, Sara Sheridan and Tom Sheridan. Honorary pallbearers will be Molly Sheridan, Scott Sheridan, Chad Sheridan, Evan Sheridan, Elisha Reed, Valerie Reed, Dick Boyle, Bob Thiel, Tom Coussens, Vincent Sheridan, Dan Urmie and Ken Owings.
