The death was reported last Thursday of Cyrenus Pelham, another of those men who came to this section many years ago and devoted his life to he upbuilding and development of this community.

Cyrenus Pelham Jr. was born in Binghamton, New York, December 23, 1847. At the age of 10 year he moved with his parents to a farm near Malone, Iowa. On October 23rd, 1870 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Taylor at DeWitt, who survives him. To this union were born five children, three of whom survive - Roy Pelham of Cadott, Wisconsin, Mrs. Claire Tobey of Princeton and Dean Pelham of Malone. Elmer Orlando Pelham passed away at the age of five years and Mrs. Frank Slapnicka at the age of 38 years.

Last fall Mr. and Mrs. Pelham celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and last December Mr. Pelham celebrate his 73rd birthday, both of which events will long be remembered by those surviving. Mr. Pelham had not been in good health for several months and passed away at 11:26 Thursday evening, June 9, 1921.

The funeral service was held at the Low Moor M. E. Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. H. Barr of this city and Rev. Jos. Yates of Low Moor officiating. Mr. Pelham was a Mason and had been visited during his last days by many brother members. There were a large number of them from DeWitt present at the funeral, and other nearby towns. Words cannot portray the usefulness of these men who, like Mr. Pelham have sĂpent a long life working for the development and betterment of the county and town and his passing will mean much to those who knew him.

Submitters' note: Cyrenius Pelham Jr. was the son of Cyrenius Pelham and Eunice Malinda Stratton.
