Mrs. Electa Pelham Dean departed this life on March 31, 1902, after a comparatively short serious illness. However, she had been in frail health for several years, the illness which terminated her earthly existence, being of a distressing character.

Deceased was born at Hector, Tomkins county, N.Y., July 16, 1842, and was at the time of her death 59 years, 8 mos., and 15 days old. She came to Iowa in March, 1855, and on Nov. 8, 1865, was married to H. F. Dean at Commauche (sic), Iowa. Of this union nine children were born, eight of whom are living, viz: F.A. and A.F. Dean, Mrs. E. H. Barrett, Mrs. Michael Barrett, H.O., Grace, Baron and Claude Dean.

Mrs. Dean was a member of the M.E. church, she having been previously baptized in the Baptist church. She was a kind wife and neighbor and an affectionate mother, and the loss falls almost as heavy upon the community as upon the family. The obsequies were conducted at the M.E. Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. D. A. Allen, who spoke many kind words of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Submitters' notes: Electa Pelham was the daughter of Cyrenius Pelham and Eunice Malinda Stratton, residents of Eden Twp, Clinton, Iowa. She married Horace F. Dean at Camanche, Clinton, Iowa. The Pleasant Hill Cemetery mentioned in the obit is in Dunlap, Harrison, Iowa.
