Fay L. Templeton, 83, of DeWitt, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, in his home.

Fay Leroy Templeton was born February 18, 1931, in Fulton, Iowa, to Kent and LaNeta (Hute) Templeton. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1950. Fay was united in marriage to Virginia Arensdorf on August 20, 1952, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, Iowa. He worked for a time at Clinton Engine in Maquoketa. In 1959 the couple moved to DeWitt where he worked for the gas co-op and later served as a police officer.

Fay was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. He served on the DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance. Fay loved the outdoors, hunting, and especially fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, jewelry design, and woodworking.

Fay is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia; children, Carla Schuldt of Moline, Illinois, Mary Templeton of Tempe, Arizona, Denise Birmingham of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, Steve Templeton of Maquoketa, Linda (Curtis) Richart of Goodyear, Arizona, and David Templeton of Rocklin, California; 13 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Art) Jones; brothers, Gary (Denise) Templeton, Larry (Debbie) Templeton, and Lee (Beverly) Templeton; sisters-in-law Georgia Templeton, Darlene Templeton, and Naomi Templeton; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Chris; a grandson, John Paul; a step-great-grandson, Justin; 4 brothers, and a sister.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
