Donald J. McManus, 75, of Camanche passed away, Tuesday November 11, 2014 at his home.
Funeral Services will be 2:30pm, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Lon Andresen, Matthew Weller, Patrick McManus, Trevor Willis, Jeff Simpson, LeRoy McKenrick, Paul Howson, and Randy Cook. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Evan Weller, Charlie Stuhlman, Barry Smith, Bob Card, Grant Henry, Shawn Ryan, Jeff Hansen, and Alvie Gradert. Donald Joseph McManus was born on December 14, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert and Ila (Bentley) McManus. He was a 1958 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He married Nancy J. Holmes in Camanche; she recently passed away July 11, 2014.
Don was a heavy equipment operator for the Local 150 for many years. He also owned and operated the Poor House Tap in Camanche.
Don was a member of the Camanche VFW and the Clinton Eagles Club. He was a past member of the Camanche Bowling Association. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed NASCAR especially following Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Don is survived by his daughter: Pamela (Danny) Weller of Camanche; two sons: Brian (Shelly) McManus of Camanche and Donny McManus of Camanche; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, three brothers: Bob (Bonnie) McManus of Camanche, James (Kathy) McManus of Olympia, Washington and David McManus of Camanche; two sister-in-laws: Diane McManus and Sue Holmes of Camanche, and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother; Tom, and a granddaughter.
Memorials can be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
