Carl J. “Chuck” Kaup age 71 of Clinton, passed away Sunday Oct. 5, 2014 at Genesis West Health System in Davenport, IA from pulmonary fibrosis. Visitation will be held Thursday 4 – 8 PM at the Pape Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday 10:30 AM at Community Congregational, UCC. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Carl was born on Feb. 19, 1943 in Clinton, IA, the son of Charles and Florence (Rickerl) Kaup. Carl served in the US Air Force from 1963-1967 in Thailand. In addition to his military duties he enjoyed teaching English to the local children. He married Kathleen VerKrusse in 1970. He later married Linda Marshall on May 12, 1990 in Clinton.
Carl is survived by his wife, Linda Kaup of Clinton; five children, Bradley (Nicole) Kaup, Ryan Kaup, Shari (Eric) Peters, James (Karen) Marshall, and Deena (Mark) McAndrew; eleven grandchildren, Sydney and Ava Kaup, Lindsey (Dave) Simmonds, Abbigail Peters, Danny (Michelle) Peters, Anna Marshall, Meghan (Eric) McFaires, Molly, Matt, Mitch and Charlie McAndrew; five great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Daniel, Hayden and Hailey Peters, Eli McFaires; seven sisters, Cecily Doty, Susan (Denny) Ytsen, Rita Kaup, Mary (Jim) Simpson, Julie (Kenny) Vilmont, Nancy (Rick) Wynkoop, and Janis Kaup; four brothers, Peter (Mary) Kaup, David Kaup, Dan Kaup, and Larry (Christine) Kaup; one sister-in-law, Sharon (Marlin) Eden and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Renee Wynkoop, and a nephew, Lucas Kaup.
Carl owned and operated Kendrick Pest Control in Clinton for over 20 years and worked for Clinton Corn Processing, Payne and Keller Construction, and ALCOA. He was an active member of the Community Congregational UCC, where he served on the trustee committee and in many other capacities over the years. He was a member of the AMVETS, Habitat for Humanity, Clinton Moose Lodge, and the Isaac Walton League.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, antiquing, boating, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl always enjoyed volunteering his time and talents in helping others. Carl held a special place in many people’s lives and will be forever remembered.
