Richard Mohr, 81, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, July 7, 2014, at home surrounded by his family.

Richard Arnold Mohr was born September 16, 1932, in Davenport, Iowa, to Arnold and Edna (Haring) Mohr. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1951 and went to Iowa State on a football scholarship. Richard was united in marriage to Jeanette (Woods) on November 24, 1952, at the Congregational Church in DeWitt. Dick worked for the city of DeWitt as the Director of Public Works until retirement.

Dick was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, and the DeWitt Fire Department. He also served as Mayor and City Councilman.

Dick enjoyed his family, friends, sports, and a good conversation.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 62 years, Jeanette; children, Steve (Lou Ann) Mohr of Eldridge, Janelle (Dennis) Schnoor, Annette Mohr, and Bob (Lori) Mohr all of DeWitt; grandchildren, Melissa, Joshua (Lindsey), Marcus (Lyndsie), Mitchell, Megan and Alex; great-grandchildren, Brenden, Henry, McKenna, Claire, Bradyn, Keatyn, Sullivan, and Parker; a brother, Ronald (Margo) of Radcliffe, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Pastor Jeff Wartgow will officiate. A private interment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, and the DeWitt Fire Department.
